LadyBird in the New Year

Wednesday, December 31st, 2008

I am going to cross my fingers and hope that we can get all the changes done by ummm…tomorrow January 1st. A lot to do today to make it happen though.

I want to give a glimpse of the changes to LB…

6.5 x 6.5 Block

6.5 x 6.5 Block

12 x 6 Block

12 x 6 Block

Look at these! They are blocks designed to fit a 6 x 6 and 12 x 6 (or less) expression. They are a perfect tabletop alternative for a board with BirdFeet and are even double-sided to fit (2) expressions.

We are also adding a 4 x 12 door tag with holes for hanging if the baby is sleeping or you just want to say “keep out!”

I am adding the 12 x 12 board with holes because my UL demonstrator orders it on a very regular basis. Her preferred hanging method is a wide, colorful ribbon and they are definitely a best-seller at her boutiques.

I don’t think we will have it up until February 1st, but I am adding a do-it-yourself section for those of you who want to add the creative finishing touches yourself. It will be a special section to order unfinished products at 25% off along with tips and instructions for painting, decoupage, and finishing the board yourself. My ‘recipes’ are not for keeping secret so any of you who have the time, energy, and desire to DIY, this page is for you.

What else…we are omitting the colors Oasis, Fuschia, and Cement from the 2009 color palette. The color Mist is somewhat ambiguous so we are changing the name to Silver Sage. Also coming are swatches of the colors on actual MDF board material for you to purchase. I hope to have these out soon, but I don’t know if tomorrow is realistic. Hmmm…that said, I need to get to work.

I hope that everyone has a safe and fun celebration tonight…Happy New Year!

Introductions

Tuesday, December 2nd, 2008

Welcome to LadyBird’s Nest! I didn’t plan on a blog – mostly because I would have to be so mindful of what I write but I will keep it on the upbeat so as to offend as few as possible.

The Nest includes Garth, Karna, Madeline, and Owen and no more (my OB and psychiatrist made me promise). I’ll get more into that at a later date but for the record, clinical depression (and no meds) is definitely a reason to induce at 37.5 weeks.

Garth Adre Humbert and I will be celebrating our 9th year of marriage next month. He is an artist/graphic designer and graduated from UCSB in ’97. He has had several graphic design companies and his most recent venture www.startclear.com is about to end. He and his partner are calling it quits so he is coming home and working from our guest room…which we will be renovating into a suitable office for him. At that point, every available space in our home will be occupied.

Karna Elaine Humbert began LadyBird in April of ’08 and I am still in shock and awe of how it has developed. I love what I do!! After staying home with our two children – and braving the homeschool waters for 1.5 years – I was more than ready to apply myself professionally. I am one of those gals that thought mothering would come naturally but I was sorely disappointed to discover that infants were not my cup of tea. However, I put on my big girl panties and relied on the kindness of my husband, family, and friends to help my kids to toddlerhood.  My kids and I started to click and mothering became infinitely easier once they started talking.

Madeline Grace Humbert turns 8 this Friday!! She is our “honeymoon” baby…and you can do the math to confirm (our families sure did). Madeline is our artist. She has the artist’s eye – she can visualize and conceptualize and put it on paper in a beautiful way. She has an amazing heart and goes with the flow. Not much bothers her but when it does, look out. Her brother sure can bring out the inner leopard (her favorite animal) in her.

Owen Wesley Humbert is 5 and we were totally unprepared to have a cool little guy like him. He is only clean for 5 minutes after his bath and can be found outdoors digging in the mud, collecting small creatures, or riding things that make him go really fast. He is a curious little person and likes to use his scooter, bike, ramps, and skateboard to experiment with velocity. As long as he has his trusty helmet and safety pads I am okay with it.

In high school, I was voted “Most likely to have a white picket fence and station wagon.” I have neither but I do have the life it connotates. We live on a cul-de-sac where there are 22 children under the age of 14 – enough said. We have BBQs and celebrate 4th of July, Halloween, and anything and everything else (when a little person makes a poo-poo in the big potty for the first time, a loose tooth, Fridays, etc.). We live on Main Street, USA and I love it!

Well, enough introductions…I need to get to work. Some of you need your orders sooner rather than later for the upcoming holidays. Thank you for keeping me busy and out of trouble!
